BEES

We love them. We fear them. They bless us. They injure , sometimes kill us.

The bees’ nest is a font of all things good and frightening.

Same with the worms. Like the can of worms?

We talk about opening a can of worms, or getting into a bees’ nest as something to avoid. It’s a metaphor that works, except that there is nothing in the bees’ nest or the can of worms that INTENDS to harm us in any way.

The bees and the worms are about their own business. When we interrupt their lives they do something to correct the interruption of flow, and it’s without malice. It’s just how things work.

We can take the time to learn about bees or worms or other alien beings and find out both the dangers and also the benefits, and how to co-exist. Or we can bypass that effort and remain afraid of bees or repulsed by worms and simply skip any benefits or risks.

It’s our choice. The bees and worms have no choice. They are programmed. We are given choice.

Our move.

Note: This little rumination is an excerpt from an old wordpress.com website of mine from some time ago. It may have been written in about 2013.
